At Young Africans for Peace and Development (YAPAD), we believe that sustainable peace is built through understanding, inclusion, and resilience.
Our Peacebuilding and Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) programs aim to create harmonious and stable societies by addressing the root causes of conflict and fostering peaceful coexistence among diverse communities.

Our Approach

We take a holistic approach that combines peacebuilding, dialogue, and community resilience.
YAPAD works directly with communities, local leaders, and institutions to:

  • Facilitate dialogue and mediation among conflicting parties

  • Promote tolerance, reconciliation, and social cohesion

  • Address economic and social inequalities that often drive instability

  • Strengthen grassroots peace structures and early warning mechanisms

  • Empower youth, women, and local actors to become agents of peace

Conflict Resolution and Mediation

Our conflict resolution efforts focus on negotiating settlements and resolving disputes through non-violent means.
We develop mechanisms to prevent future conflicts, ensuring that communities have the tools and systems needed to sustain peace over time.

By actively engaging communities, governments, and international partners, our peacebuilding and conflict resolution initiatives help to:

  • Reduce violence and conflict recurrence

  • Protect human rights and promote social justice

  • Create foundations for sustainable development and long-term peace

Countering Violent Extremism (CVE)

Violent extremism remains one of the key threats to peace in the Horn of Africa.
YAPAD works to prevent radicalization and build community resilience by offering positive alternatives and amplifying peace narratives.

Our CVE initiatives include:

  • Community awareness and civic education to counter extremist ideologies

  • Youth mentorship programs promoting dialogue and entrepreneurship

  • Partnerships with faith leaders and grassroots peace champions

  • Capacity building for local peace committees and early response teams

Our Vision for Peace

We envision communities where dialogue replaces division, and diversity becomes a source of strength.
Through collaboration, empowerment, and education, YAPAD remains committed to building lasting peace and preventing violent conflict across Kenya, Ethiopia, and the wider Horn of Africa region.
