YAPAD is a Non-profit making organization that operates in Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia. YAPAD was established in 2018 and registered in 2019 as a local organization in both Kenya and Ethiopia and currently in progress to register in Somalia. The organization was formed by young selfless and talented youths from all walks of life whose desire is to vision a better society and its peaceful coexistence. YAPAD has physical and functioning offices in Nairobi, Marsabit and Mandera in Kenya and other offices in Moyale and Jigjiga in Ethiopia. YAPAD has competent and hardworking staffs who can execute its mandates with a lot of passion in a professional way by upholding virtuous of integrity of accountability and transparency.

The organization strives to bring together all the youth and stakeholders across all diverse communities, regardless of their religion, culture, ethnicity, political views, educational level, family background and Country of origins to promote cohesion and integration. Our main agenda is to work relentlessly and passionately to deliver and disseminate the right information to the vulnerable and affected regions so that they may no longer be the victims of war, oppression or misuse but transform them to be asset of peace and solution givers as well.

What necessitated the formation of YAPAD.

What necessitated the formation of YAPAD was decades-long conflict and insecurity along the shared border areas of Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya which was characterized by armed conflict, violent crime, extremist attacks, political instability and clan clashes. Insecurity stems from a complex mix of resource competition, clan power struggles, and more recently, the presence of armed terror groups, which more easily operate and recruit in this environment. Security objectives often supersede others, creating challenges for mobile communities, breaking down risk- management strategies, stressing livelihoods, and creating fuel for conflict and radicalization. Moreover, climate changes are significantly affecting weather patterns across the regional borders resulting in more unpredictable rainfall and more- extreme weather events. This combined with changes in land use, result in pastoralists trekking further afield to find increasingly limited water and pasture resources. The current drought has resulted in wide-spread migration and livestock losses.
